New Heritage Building
Dear Friend of the Northern Maine Fair, The Northern Maine Fair Association has recently decided to construct an Agriculture Heritage Building that will serve as an agricultural museum and educational center. This new facility, a wood frame and metal sided building, would be located on the Northern Maine Fairgrounds, in order to preserve and display antique farm equipment. The Northern Maine Fair Association needs your help with this exciting project, to preserve the antique farm equipment which defines the history and tradition of Northern Maine. Much of our highest quality antique farm equipment is leaving the area to collectors or simply rotting away. We believe it is important to preserve as much of this equipment as possible so that future generations of Northern Mainers can learn of the way things used to be here. Antique farm equipment displays have become a fast growing part of the Northern Maine Fair. Over the past few years, with the support of the community and The Maine Antique Tractor Club Northern Division, we have reached the point where a year-round facility is needed to give this important tradition a permanent location on the fairgrounds. The agricultural artifacts have been very popular with fairgoers, who have made this educational exhibit one of the most popular displays of the fair. The fair even turns people away who want to display their antique equipment, but who cannot move it to and from home easily. Most of these potential exhibitors would leave their antique farm equipment year-round, or even donate these items to the fair, if there was a permanent home for them on the fairgrounds. This new proposed facility will be a 50 ft. by 100 ft. building, very similar to the building pictured below. It will be conveniently located in the agricultural area, near the present flower building and attractively landscaped. The construction will commence in the Spring of 2008, and the design will compliment the current architectural style of the grounds.
The Board of Directors and many others who wish to preserve these historic items will be working hard over the next few months to raise $100,000 for this campaign. I would like to personally ask you to make a tax free contribution of any amount to help make this dream a reality. As President of the Northern Maine Fair Association, it is a privilege to bring the tradition of our rural and agricultural heritage to the community through the Northern Maine Fair. If you are interested in helping with this matter, I would be very happy to discuss this project with you personally. You can contact me by calling 764-2927 or by email at lynwood@mfx.net. Please print and mail your Pledge Form with your donation. Our fundraising deadline is January 31st 2008, so that construction can begin on time in the Spring of 2008.
Please accept my sincere thanks, |
